Expected results

Public results of the SEANERGY 2020 project:

First phase

  • End of February 2011: Selection of good examples of national MSP practices, taking into account (1) policy and legal framework; (2) information management mechanisms; (3) permitting and licensing procedures; (4) stakeholders consultation; (5) sector conflict management practices; (6) cross-border cooperation and (7) MSP implementation and enforcement. Good examples will be provided for these seven dimensions of MSP where they exist (Work Package 2: National Maritime Spatial Planning Regimes),
  • End of February 2011: Set of policy recommendations for the different target groups regarding the implementation of national MSP practices favouring the deployment of marine renewable energy sources (Work Package 2: National Maritme Spatial Planning Regimes)

Second phase

  • End of October 2011: In-depth analysis of the different international MSP instruments and their compatibility with the implementation of offshore renewable power generation ( Work Package 3: International Maritime Spatial Planning Instruments),
  • End of April 2011: Policy recommendations for developing existing and potentially new international MSP instruments and for promoting a more integrated and coordinated cross-border MSP (Work Package 3: International Maritime Spatial Planning Instruments).

Third phase

  • End of October 2011: Inventory of barriers to liaising national and international MSP approaches and options to remove these barriers will be prepared along the use of case studies illustrating how to adapt the two levels of MSP policies. Project recommendations will also be prepared as part of this task (Work Package 4 : Assessment of the different levels of MSP policies and their compatibility. Project recommendations).

Promotion and capacity-building

  • November – December 2011: Meetings with representatives of national and regional authorities (Work Package 5: Promotion and capacity-building at international, national and regional levels),
  • February – March 2012: Meetings with representatives of the European Union (EU) and other international authorities (Work Package 5: Promotion and capacity-building at international, national and regional levels),
  • January 2012: Working meetings with different national and regional authorities with a potential cooperation (Work Package 5: Promotion and capacity-building at international, national and regional levels).

Communication and dissemination activities

  • End of October 2010: Website ( Work Package 6: Communication and dissemination activities )
  • November 2010 – September 2011: four regional workshops organised in each sea basin region: Atlantic Sea, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean and North Sea to promote the conclusions to the different users: regional and national MSP authorities, planners, developers, regulators, TSOs, shipping and maritime organisations, fishing associations, environmental NGO, other regional/national authorities (see our events page) ( Work Package 6: Communication and Dissemination Activities),
  • End of October 2011: Final publication with recommendations on how to implement a coordinated/ EU MSP approach between Member States, and options to remove barriers to MSP and the development of offshore renewable power plants (Work Package 6: Communication and Dissemination activities),
  • April 2012: Final workshop (Work Package 6: Communication and Dissemination activities).
